Erratic clutch operation
I have a 95 prelude vtec and when I engage the clutch the petal starts out really stiff then feels like something releases and feels normal again and it will shift, if I try to shift at a normal driving speed it acts like the clutch doesnt disengage and wont shift i can also feel a pulsating in the petal until it decides to release....I have replaced the master and slave cylinders and checked the clutch damper thingy (whatever it does) air does move through it freely so assume that couldnt be the problem just wondering if anyone had the same experience before I tear into it ....Thanks
My car's master cylinder went out, and this caused me to over heat the clutch.
At that point I replaced the master cylinder, but didn't know that I had caused a spring on the clutch to break loose, and then not fall out. So this spring would pop in and pop out depending on what it felt like.
edit:
I bleed the clutch atleast 4 times, and there was no resolution. So start there, and then move on to ....
Symptoms:
Clutch would not completly disengage(the spring would hang up).
Pulsing pedal(spring cetching)
Symptoms:
Grinding of gears after the spring hung up.(There was no way to verify the clutch. So it was pretty intermitent.
There was a few times that I had a really stiff clutch, like:
Once I couldn't get the car in gear, so I turned the car off, and then put it in first and started. This caused the car to lurch forward untill the spring broke loose, and then the clutch acted normally. Before I started the car, the clutch was really stiff.
If you have the same problem as I did then you need a new clutch
The tech at Honda has seen it before.
All and all my story has lots of speculation, but I still find my clutch spring guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Give me more symptoms after you've blead the clutch 4 times.

I did bleed the clutch at least 4 times many more actually, first I replaced the slave and thoroughly bled the system, it made no difference, then I replaced the master and bled the system, no difference, this problem started before I did either one, air in the line would usually cause a mushy pedal not a stiff one it just feels like the pedal is pushing against something that does not want to move it sounds very similar to the spring thing your talking about M@ either that or the throw out bearing is hanging up on the shaft.
