I am tring to find out what gray smoke coming out of the tail pipe means. I step down hard on the gas peddle and all I see is gray smoke coming out the tail pipe. Tail pipe is black but still gets great gas milege. When I put my hand about 3 inches from the tail pipe I get little black specs on my hand. 1.5 liter 89 all stock.

you are probably burning oil or you could be running rich but most likely its because of bad piston rings.. i would just replace the motor its cheaper..

black smoke = burning oil.
White smoke = coolant.. So black + white = grey? Your probably burning both lol.

White smoke is probably condensation in the exhaust, and the 'jittery' problem is more then likely unrelated. Low idle maybe?

i dont know if its a low idle. i cant really tell. i havent messed with the idle. i just recently changed the fuel injectors/spark plugs/spark wires.

do you think i would have to change the idle speed b-cuz of that?

Been addig oil to it but not coolant. Still full since I bought it. Did A compression check and I am getting 180 strait across on all cylinders. Runs great. It doesnt smoke at all exept when I step hard down on the throttle. Then I get a little puff of gray smoke. I got a price on a 30k mile motor japenese exchange for 695 bucks. Does that sound about right?

To me it does. I dont think you need to readjust your idle after the maintenance work you did, but adjusting it wont hurt to see if it fixes your problem. Worst case scenario is that it will idle lower, and youll have to readjust it again.
