Default trani knocking!

I started to notice it yesterday, and today its gotten louder. I'm a bit worried.

Lets say I'm in neutral the clutch isn't engaged, Im just sitting there, I have a knocking sound, its bugging the **** out of me, as soon as I engage the clutch it goes silent, wtf can it be? flywheel? I realy don't think its the engine, I listened under the hood it sounds like trani

if it is making noise with clutch out, it is the tranny (or in some weird situations it could be the release bearing if the clutch isnt fully disengaging.)

if it is making noise when the clutch is pushed in, or when you're letting it out it is either pilot bearing or release bearing.

Seafoam works very well if used correctly. Also make sure to change your oil after you use it.

I say it is the Main Input Shaft bearing, about a $20 part from Honda. The labor is what costs.

Did you have your car repaired after finding out it was the throwout bearing? If so how much did it cost? My car is doing the same thing.... I was affraid it was the motor too, but can't believe that it would be. Also, if you know, how much to get valves adjusted, mine are also clacking...

Glad I found your post. This has been driving me nuts...

I dont mean to disappoint you, but if you said that you have a knocking noise in neutral and press in the clutch and it goes away it is your input shaft bearing.

Here is another way to check, take your car for a ride going less than 5mph in 1st gear and listen for the knocking. Either way if you press in the clutch and the noise goes away it is the input shaft bearing. I have had it go out on me with 2 trannys. But dont worry, it is fairly easy to replace. Besides dropping your tranny.

I have a complete write-up for you including photos from Bauley Civic. It is a very good write-up and its what I used to do the job. Here it is https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=596873 If you have any question you can pm me and I will do what I can to help. I have dropped my tranny several time and pulled it apart twice. Good Luck!
