my response from last week's thread:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 91.crx.si &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I ran into the same problem when doing my swap. Check out the thread that I made, got some pretty good responses there:

I tried the c-clamp method, AC compressor bolt, all different types of punches, but the pin didn't want to come out. So I ended up ordering a tool from Matco tools specifically designed to remove the shift pin.

Go to http://matcotools.com/ and search for this part number: MST6455

Took about 3 hits with a BFH and in 5 seconds it was out. It always helps when you have the right tools!</TD></TR></TABLE>

8mm or 5/16" roll pin punch (a regular punch wont work well), or the aforementioned Matco linkage pin tool.

You could also use an air hammer if you have access to pneumatic tools.

One of the biggest problems with this is you are under ther car
{hopefully using jackstands..} and you just don't have much
room to really swing the hammer and can't create much force..

If all else fails, Unbolt the linkage from the shifter and drag it
all out from under the car..Then beat the living crap out of it...

if you cant get a punch use a philis screw dricer that won go through the hole in the pin bit will go through the hole the pin is in and mash it with a hammer,
works everytime

just use a left over valve.... preferably intake valves.... gives a bigger surface to slam on with a sledge hammer.... takes me 2-3 good hits and its out.... been using the same valve for the past 10 years

I don't know what kind of tools you have access to. I couldn't find a punch already made for my air hammer. So I took a punch and grinded it down to the size needed. A couple squeezes on the trigger it came right out.

i used a phillips that had the same diameter as the pin or a little smaller in the shaft and a normal pump jack. i lined the screwdriver up to make sure its straight and stiffen it up with the jack. and then i jack it up, lifting the car up at that point about a millimeter and then i raise the jack handle up at it's fullest height and JACK it up quickly basicly using the jack and screwdriver as a press.

8mm punch + hammer + your arm = removal of pin.

It's litterally that easy. Having the CORRECT tools makes it that much easier. I bought my punch for 2.49$.

Lol! I just use a 12mm bolt. Like a exhaust bolt for example, and a hammer. The trick is to hit it fast and hard. Cam cap bolts work well also. But use a bolt that you don't care about

it took me 40 mins to get the bitch pin off. i dun drop the entire shift linkage before i remove the pin, i do it from under the car and there's really not much room for your to swing that hammer. also, if i can replace that pin with a bolt instead, i would ... have anyone tried?
