My car makes a loud pop or clunk noise sometimes when I brake hard or accelerate. It also makes the sound sometimes when I turn my steering wheel when not moving. I have replaced my cv joints and that didnt fix it. It is always just one loud pop or clunk I think its on the passenger side. I checked to see if everything was tight. Please let me know what you think

 

What else is going on?

Does it track straight on the highway?

Is it only in low speed situations?

Is your cars suspension modified in any way?

It might pull a tiny bit on the highway. The steering wheel has a tiny shake in it but it is hard to really notice it. This noise occurs at high or low speeds. It will happen when I hit the brakes hard or if I accelerate hard and when I turn in place or at higher speeds. My car is a 91 civic hatch with a 99 gsr engine in it. It is lowered with coil overs and doesnt have a camber kit yet so the tires have more wear toward the middle of the car. I have replaced cv joints and some lower ball joints and a outer tie rod ball joint. Let me know if you still need more info.

i had the same noise, i just jacked up the car and re-torqued every suspension bolt down, it ended up being the radius rod though. check that. and torque the lug nuts down too

 

Thanks for that link but I tried putting a thin piece of metal about the same thickness of a washer with the 2 holes in it. I used a piece of metal instead of washers because it should make it even the surface have less psi since its a bigger surface. I put the metal plate between the crossmember and the frame like it says in that link and tighten it as tight as I could get it with a 1/2 ratchet and it still makes the same noise.

 

I have taken the radius rod out and check the bushings and tighten all the bolts that go in it didnt change anything. I have had my wheels off probably 5-10 times since it started doing this and have tighten the crap out of the lug nuts before

 

My crx did the same thing and it ended up being the passenger side radius arm but if you already checked that then that must not be it. Other than that all i can say is tripple check that every nut and bolt in the frontend is tight. Good Luck man i know how you feel that annoyed the crap out of me

 

yeah check radius rod, have had the nuts come loose and they do wear out. The poly ones help great with wheelhop if u have to replace them. Also sounds like a wheel bearing issue or possibly axle. Find were the play is at in the suspension and u will find your pop,lol

 

have you checked the torque on the crossmember that the steering rack is bolted to? also check to make sure the bolts securing the steering rack to the crossmember are also tight.

-I know the radius rod with the 2 bolts in one end and 1 nut on the other end are all tight and the bushings didnt look ripped or anything. other than that what could be wrong with it? What was wrong with yours?

try checking the play in the ball joints and tie rod ends. also take a wire wheel to the hub's to get off the rust and crap cus that will mess up the torque

 

The sound comes from the front passenger side and I have replaced the passenger side outer tie rod ball joint and the lower ball join. I dont really have any rust but I will double check
