has any one changed the 5th gear from YS1 (92-93 GSR) for a 94up GSR one? What's involved?
I'm thinking this is better than the LS, as the RPM would dropp a lot from 4th to 5th
TIA

I've have heard alot of people doing that. I'm not sure but i think it's just opening up the tranny case and swithing the YS1 5th gear for an 90-93 LS gear. somebody correct me on that ... I also wanna know...
yeah i did this swap. consisted of the MAIN and COUNTER 5th gear from a 94+ GSR. if you have a helms then there is nothing to it. just pull the case and switch the gears. its really not difficult at all.
and court... answer is no. on the 92-93 GSR YS1 trannies, the 5th gear ratio is ~.880 while the 94+ GSR 5th is .787
BIG difference especially for freeway cruising. the 94 GSR 5th is also a good compromise between the stock 5th and the LS 5th. i had an LS 5th in my old JDM S1 tranny and i swear the shift from 4th to 5th felt more like 4th to 6th. its a BIG drop off there, but if you want low freeway revs then its a good investment.

Jason,
Did you have to change any of the syncros? Or is just just the main and counter 5th gears that have to be changed?
What was your RPM dropp from 4th into 5th with LS 5th as opposed to the GSR 5th?
TIA

what court said.... the synchros are the exact same! ALL i had to replace was the main and counter 5th gears with 94+ GSR 5th gears. thats it!
as for the rpms thing. well when i had my JDM S1 with 90-91 LS 5th, i turned just about 4400rpms at ~91mph. i remember it that way because thats what my vtec is set to with my Mugen Chipped PR3. so 70-75 would be nice and low.
i havent had the chance to try out my 94 GSR 5th yet though because i've had to pull my head back apart on my recently finished LS/Vtec rebuild.
BUT if you go to THIS SITE
http://www.autocrossing.com\cgi-bin\gearcalc.cgi AND THEN BOOKMARK IT!
you'll be set. just pick your tranny and change the 5th gear and it will tell you your rpms at 70mph as well as a few other cool things. this site gets a HUGE
for the info!
and court! check your hybrid PM! i JUST found the info you needed
*(on a side note, its important to remember that a 94+ GSR 5th is ONLY going to work in a 92+ Integra tranny and NOT the 89-91 B16 cable trannies ie. Y1/S1/J1.)
