I think there is, but when you get past 100mph in a stock d16y8, it comes down to having problems with not enough horsepower, and because off the different gearing past 4th gear.

With that lack of horsepower and the longer 5th gear, it's hard to get it past 110. I personally know someone that has gone 120mph in a stock 2000 civic ex coupe 5spd with just an aem SRI. Not that I encourage such reckless driving.

I couldn't imagine why you'd need to go past 80mph in regular daily driving however..

find a hill... go down it...

edit...

should have said:

to defeat drag, find a hill and go down it

i think all the OBD2 ecus came with a speed limiter but im not 100% sure cause my buddies 99 si would go over 110. i have ODB1 and hit 135 with my B16 EJ1 so its all good.

Yes, it's called drag.

It's probably the fact that your car can't make enough horsepower/torque to propel you to faster speeds. Why on earth do you want to go faster than 120mph on public roads?

My 95 Civic would cut out very harshly at 128 mph, I mean harsh enough that it was pretty dangerous. It was a speed cut off, because the tach had more to go.

I've had my old d16y8 up to 125 or so before, I got scared because that was on stock suspension and shitty tires I believe.

my 98 feels like i hit the brakes at 120 exactly, i was doing a good job keeping up with my buddies crx and prelude, I still had about 2k or so more to go and still climbing when my engine rudely ruined the fun. Straight walled Highways at 3 in the morning are fun!

I've had my 99 Si up to an indicated 132, and it just felt like it ran out of steam. If i remember right i was taching like 7k. It was also hauling a full tank of gas and my big ***.

Congratulations, if one of your tires blew out at that speed, you'd be royally fucked, ever stop and think about that?

Yup. Didn't really care at the time. Had a new "fast" car. This was also June of 1999.

ke98248, please take your sanctimony elsewhere.
People have been speeding for as long a there have been speed limits.

yes there are dangerous places to speed, and yes, YOU CAN HAVE A BLOW OUT AT ANY TIME. I had a tire blow out at 110, guess what? I simply pulled over the the side of the road, put on my spare, and drove my *** home.

i had to replace my front splash guard and turn signal because the tread killed them, but if you know how to drive a blow out isn't the end of the world.

sure speeding in public areas is unsafe, and i'm not a proponent to that, but don't preach at people when you don't know the circumstances, its ******* lame.

I remember when i was a kid and i'd come to where i live now to see my family, it was a big deal that we would lay out in the road in front of the house to look for constellations and cars wouldn't pass for HOURS.

from what i thought most of the single cams from 92-00 where governed at 118mph. but for some reason ive been able to bury my speed in my 95 d16z6 well past 135mph. i guess my limiter doesn't work. anyone have a theory on that. the cars was bone stock when i bought it.

Yeah, a little. Seven second 0-60 times were fast for a sport compact back in 99. Plus the car I used to drive was a total pile, so anything was "fast" compared to the old ride.
