pull the carpet on the passengers side(it just clips in) the ecu is right underneath there. turn the key to the on position. look back at the ecu and see if its flashing. If it is wait until it stops flashing then start counting how many times it flashes. wait til it stops flashing then count the flashes again to see if it flashes the same amount of times. if it does. post the number u get and we will help you out. if the sequence changes post all of the flashes u get. basicly if it flashes 2times then when it restarts it flases another 2times thats ur problem. but if it flashes 2x then restarts and flashes 17x u have 2 problems. and if it restarts and flashes 20x then u have another problem. so basicly just wait til it flashes the same number of times as when u started to count the flashes.

17 is vss speed sensor 1 is o2 sensor and 8 is tdc top dead center.
have you tried clearing the codes to see if they come back, to reset
the ecu disconect the batterie for 15sec and see if the code comes back.

Is this the stock motor/trans? If so, either your speedo cable is broken or disconnected.

its the vehicle speed sensor. to locate it. look on the back of the motor. theres a mount there connected to the transmission. its just on the other side( closest to the driver) of the mount. its a long black cable. it comes out from the firewall. if u need ne more info just ask.

0h and for the o2 sensor just take it off the manifold and clean it with gas for now.

You may have to try a different cluster then. For the O2 sensor, what's preventing you from getting to it?

All it takes is an 02 socket and wrench.....Couldnt be easier, but sometimes you HAVE to use the socket made just for that purpose.
The VSS code on the other hand, is probably a problem with your cluster where the cable hooks up.

so take off the heat shield. there should only be 3 bolts honing it on. and to take it off u need a 21 wrench. or since u have a new 02 sensor disconnect the old one and cut the wire then stick a 21 socket over it. theres a little metal piece on the o2sensor where the wire goes in u can beak that off the old one if have to.
