B20 crank and rods in a B18C4 (quick help!)
Hiya guys,
I've been to look at a EG4 VTI today. I really like the look of it and I'm considering buying it. The only thing I'm not sure about is the engines a B18C4 (UKDM similar to the B18C - none type-r 169Bhp stock) running B20 crank and rods. The owner says that this gives it 1834cc and 11.6-1 compression ratio. Is this a safe and tried combination? I don't want to buy this and have major engine issues.
Other mods include ITR cams and fly on chrome ECU. Estimated power is 200Bhp.
Apparently the engines done 2,000 miles since the rebuild and has been fine so far. They guys who built this engine and fitted it into the car are known in the UK and have some really fast hondas under there belts.
I've asked about this on a UK forum but the guys on there are pretty clueless about this mod and its effects. One guy did mention though that the rod angles would be unsafe and the compression is a little high and that it wouldn't rev as high as a regular B18C4. Please set me straight because I can't afford to buy this and have any major engine issues.
Thanks!

it's essentially the same thing as LS/Vtec setups. Search that.
It could be safe if done properly with ARP rod bolts and whatnot, but if just slapped together I wouldn't rev it much above 7500

I don't know how it would be the same as an ls-vtec? he still has a vtec block with a vtec head just different crank and rods. I say if it runs good and doesn't smoke or do anything weird you'll be fine
Go for it dude, look over the car, not just the engine, look at everything, start it up, drive it, let it run for a few minutes
Dont be a friend to give it a little spirited driving, if you see any odd smoke or any noises or anything strange then stay away

I've done a quick search and found that the B18C4 stroke is 88mm, the B20 stroke is 89mm so its only a 1mm difference. Also, the pistons in this engine are the B16A2 items. As far as I know, the B16A2 and B18C4 pistons are both the same - 81mm. But, doesn't the B16A2 run more compression than the B18C4? So this woud suggest its quite a safe combination as long as its been done correctly. The engines covered 2,000 miles and seems sweet as a nut!
I think I'm going to go for it!
Please correct me if I'm wrong?
