Default Cruise Control

I have a 01 Accord EX. The cruise control just up and died. The light on the dash still works when I activate it. I checked the fuse and it appears to be o.k.
The Dealer wants $120.00 just to diagnois it. Any ideas on what it might be and how much it should cost to repair it? Also, could a back yard mechanic like my self repair it. Thanks in Advance!

Hey have you gotten any response to this question. I have just encountered the same problem. I also drive a 2001 Honda Accord. 4 Banger. The Cruise light come on when i press the button to the left of the steering wheel, but when i attempt to set a speed with the button on the steering wheel, nothing happens. NO Cruise.
Any suggestions from anyone out there. I have searched and there are no topics on this for the accord.

I had to take it to the Honda Dealer. They said that it was the control module on the side of the steering wheel that went out. I believe it was a couple hundred dollars to get it repaired. It was $120.00 for the diagnostics and then they included that in the cost of the bill.

I am having this exact same issue with my cruise control. When I activate it, the light turns on but it doesn't cruise at the speed just keeps dropping like nothing happened.

Are you 100% sure the control module was bad? Why would it activate it on the dash if it was bad??

Couple of hundred dollars? The OEM control module is being sold on ebay for $10 and has only 2 screws... you take it out and plug it in. I guess it's worth the $10 rather than paying Honda $92/hour to diagnose and than charge hundreds on top of that...

Well you bumped an old *** thread.

Worst case :

Take the car to Honda for a diagnostic but not to fix it take that and see if you can repair it yourself
