I will be building a sunroof block off plate for my gsr and wondered if any of you body guys might know off hand what gauge the roof is. I wanted to buy the same gauge sheet metal. Yes I searched, thanks in advance.

I'm not sure on the thickness but I'm curious if you have ever done this job? It's not easy

I have never done the job before. I am a mechanic and know that I am capable. I just thought someone may know off hand, I am planning this as a winter project. The headliner and sunroof assembly is still in the car which interferes with taking any kind of measurement. There is a great thread here on hondatech that shows a simple template being made of the sunroof glass. Which is then transfered to a piece of plywood which is used as a "mold" to form the piece of sheetmetal around. Basicly recreating the shape of the glass assembly, and allowing for the holes for the rivets to not be visible. If you search for sunroof block off it will bring it up. Looks a little time consuming, yet simple.

I believe its 20 gauge. It's no thicker than 18 gauge, I know that. It wouldn't hurt to go a little thicker.

The good thing is that the area around the sunroof opening is reinforced.

And another good thing is that welding is not even needed. You basicly make a mold of your glass with the sheet metal, paint it, set it in the opening with some seam sealer, drill and rivet it horizontaly in the sides of the sunroof opening (in where the glass sits when closed) so there are no holes in the roof and no welding of the roof panel.
