my steering wheel starts to shake when i get above 50mph. what is causing this? tires are balanced. rims are new. centric rings are on front 2 wheels. any ideas?

 

maybe alignment or warped rotors?

 

mine wobbles above 60 or 70 because i have a bad axle.

 

does it happen when just accelerating above 50+ mph, or when braking?

 

naw just above 50mph..

 

Have you tried taking the wheels off and putting them back on with a torque wrench...a lot of times you can take wheels off and on and get different sounds/vibrations each time if you don't torque everything just right.

 

well who balanced them? someone careless could've halfassed balanced them...not as accurately. also it could be the tire is out of round. tires arent always manufactured perfectly.
what does your alignment look like? if yours is out, that could also cause a shake

 

A bad CV joint can cause shake. Check your alignment and recheck your tires balance.

 

it was balanced by this tire shop i go to. if i had a bad cv joint will it make some kind of sound when i turn the steering wheel to a certain side? because when i turn my wheel to the right it makes this sound.

if it makes that sound when you turn - probably a bad cv boot. otherwise, shaking over 50mph is prob your brake rotors.

it will usually make a sound. however, if the inner cv joint goes, it may not make a clicking sound or an irregular noise, and just cause vibration.

 

could be your tires too. A lot of the times its because of bad tires.

 

i have the same problem, only its on a 04 S2000, drive about 60-and up it starts shaking, put some diff wheels on it and the problem is still there, must be the axles or something else.

 

FYI, i know i have had a ripped, nearly empty CV boot for quite a while now. it makes no noise. not even when i turn. but it does shake at high speed. look at your axles.

yea, my axles are the cause of my wheel hop on the street good thing i dont track with street tires

 

took it to the shop and it was a bad tie-rod..they went to get it aligned but they couldnt cuz the car is lowered and that i have bad camber wear...what can i do to fix this?

 

camber kit. or raise it back to stock.

 

is it safe to drive with camber wear?

 

yea its safe, but u wont get as much traction as u would with the right camber set up. have been driving my s2k for a year
