Loosing it's marbles on right hand sweepers??
96 4dr LX A/T
In trying to diagnose the TCC problem I had the front wheels off the ground to get the car to run through the gears and see if the torque converter would lockup. I pushed it to about 65-70. I thought I heard the lockup, but then heard some nasty rumbling, so I stopped. If that's why my converter isn't locking up when there's load on the wheels, then it sounds like absolute CRAP!
I took the car out on the road and if I'm going around a long sweeping right hand exit ramp about 40 MPH, I get a rumbling sound from the powertrain. It stops when I starighten the car again. At first it sounded like a wheel bearing went out, but they check out fine.
Could this be my torque converter ripping itself apart?
Seeing as though I don't have the cash to do a 5 speed swap or get a rebuild auto tranny, would it be really worthless for me to just replace the converter with a rebuild one? Or should I just find a used converter and tranny?
Tranny shifts fine.
