many times it depends on (not gonna end up a debate) but people would say the break in process, many people have built motors and didn't understand what or how to break in the motor. if the motor was rebuilt and using stock parts and stock ecu, that means that ecu was tuned and it will be perfect. If something happened like a rod knock to this situation, i would understand if was the fault of the mechanics. but if it was a built motor with any internals or modifications, then there would be a need for a tune before the breakin, thus the problem was caused by the break in process of improper A/Fr either running rich or lean, therefore causing the motor to become damaged
Do you have a build sheet from the shop? If not did they make any notes and let you know of anything? Or did they just say that everything was ok, here you go. ANy chances you got anything that showed the clearances and how much crank end play, and rod play there was when they assembled it?
Depending on how bad the crank was to begin with, chances are you should of at the very least replaced the crank, and not used it again.
