Default Trying to fine a new block

I have a 1990 civic hatch with a mini swap, D15 block with Z6 head. I was wondering if i can use a D16 block instead of my D15 or what are other blocks i can use for my car. Its still OBD0 but im planing on doing OBD1 soon.

Also for some reason when im standing still at traffic temp. gauge rises but the car is not over heating, then it goes away if i turn off the car or start to move does anyone know why is this????

Short answer-Yes, any SOHC D-Series block should work (1.5-1.6) basically anything from 88-00.

I don't know about you temp situation though. How far does it rise?

only block you cant use is the 1.5 hf block. and sounds like your radiator fan isnt working, and when you start going the fins on the radiator cool down a bit.

Really? Is it the block itself that can't be used? Or the pistons...

For the temp thingy, my buddy had a similar problem. Said it went back to normal after he'd start to drive again. He said there was air in the lines. Try bleeding it and see if that resolves anything.

True

To be more specific then, be careful of the 8 valve motors which are D15B6 and D15B8. The first is from the 88-91 CRX HF model. The second is from the 92-95 Civic CX model (I have heard that after a certain year, the B8 blocks came with normal 16 valve pistons).

Aside from the crank and pistons, there will be rod size differences and also something you might overlook are the bearing/journal sizes.

for the most part their all the same..depending on the blocks internals. but the hf can only support 8 valves cause the pistons will hit the valves.

edit-- lol beat me to it.

All the 1.6 blocks are 16 valve so you should be good. If you can, locate a Z6 block so that you have a complete D16Z6 setup. Two other blocks you may want to consider are the A6 block (88-91 Civic/CRX Si/EX) and the JDM D15B VTEC block. I've read some arguements saying the A6 is the strongest internally due to different materials used and I've also heard arguements for the D15B VTEC having a specific rod/stroke ratio that is best but I couldn't personally verify either claim. Try searching it and see what you come up with.
