Not knowing too much about assebling transmissions but knowing a bit more about gear ratios. Without trying to explain too much, I am wondering is it possible to install a fourth gear as a fifth gear ? The 94-01 USDM LS 4th gear @ 0.966 with main teath count at 29 and counter ar 30 would be perfect acting as a fifth gear for my application, and it would reduce the cost of having some custom gears manufactured being an OEM gear. Is this possible?
no, the fourth gears dimensions, design and how it engages with the synchro are different from a 5th gear.
sure it is possible, the gears don't know what gear they are, but it depends on size.
IIRC bensen (the tranny guy) uses a 3 gear as a 2nd gear or something along those lines

I'm using a 3rd gear as 4th gear.
I'm not sure about b-series, but with d-series you can use a 3rd gear as a 4th gear. and you can use a 4th gear as a 3rd gear.
