90-91 prelude si potential
sup guys, i mainly a civic/integra guy, but I've always been fond of thwe 90-91 preludes. I have the opportunity of picking one up that is in fair condition, but honestly I dont know much about these. Is this considered a 3rd gen prelude? what are the available engine codes for these years? how much potential do they have (tunability)? Do they not like boost just like all the other preludes? Weak sleeves? Probably OBD1 right? Can anyone fill me in a littlebit on these so I know right off hand what I might be getting myself into? These are a rare breed on the streets and I know theres a reason for it besides them being 16-17 years old in age.

I know there are people out there with 200-300k miles on them!
They have been boosted with good success, hitting the 200whp mark on conservative boost.
H22's HAVE been swapped into them.....
There are some JDM B20/21 options that I know some people look into....
Great Torque compared to other Hondas from the late 80's/early 90's.
An absolute blast to drive!!
I think theyre going to be OBD0, but Im not sure.....

i have 2 of these cars, 1 was boosted the other had an h22a
The b20a i had was on the boost made 355whp, but wasnt very reliable....
3rd gen with an h22a is great, these cars handle very very well and with the h22a power its very nice, AZ race machine is the place that makes the mounts, MUCH better than the old place racing mounts that arent even around anymore, the AZ race mounts fit perfect, i have them in my car..
88-91 2.0si models with the b20a5 are OBD0
90-91 SI with the b21a1 are OBD1
90-91 have bigger hubs than the 88-89 (makes the h22 swap easier)
90-91 have VSS in trans 88-89 have a cable
90-91 have nice tail lights IMO
if your going to get a 3rd gen a 90-91 SI is the best bet
only down side to the SI vs the 2.0si is the the b21a1 is FRM and burns oil like a mother the 2.0si b20a5 is regular Iron sleeve
4WS is pretty neat as well...
heres a few pictures of random ****
i heart the 3rd gen prelude....
b20a build

oringed the block

h22a swap (now sleeved and built and in the white car waiting for boost)

not bad for original paint

3rd gen meet pic im on the right Real JDM car on the left!!

Going a step further back....We used to terrorize Civics and Tegs with my friends 86 Si.....Once you had the car moving, the power was all there!
for H22 swapped 3rd gens!
Turbo H22 power in a 2/3gen is just insane!
If anyone remembers RICEBOY from hondaprelude.com he was rocking an 11sec monster in the late 90's! It was a 2nd gen BTW.

so I'm not sure if I understand this correctly...so do the stock sleeves in the B20-and B21 handle the boost ok or are they risky just like the B20 CRV and H22's stock sleeves?

just cause it has foglights dosent mean they have 4ws the base SI had them...
The b21 isnt a good motor to boost, just because the FRM and lack of piston options, not to mention they burn oil like mad....
however the b20a is a stout motor, its an iron sleeved closed deck block, i was on stock sleeves with mine at 355whp and there are a few other people above 400whp with stock sleeves
the crv b20 has NOTHING in common with the b20a bottom end wise, the b20a is pretty much by itself in terms of parts swaping, only thing that really interchanges is the cams from other non vtec B's and cam gears.
My car was originaly a 2.0si OBD0 model, but i have completly converted it to an SI so its OBD1 now and it has all the SI interior 2.0si interior isnt quite as nice...
I actually just converted it to 4ws a few months ago before i did the h22a swap...

thanks for the info so far. I'm going to find out which motor the car actually has. I'm not even for sure if its a 90 or a 91. Its black with tan interior. I assumed it has the B21 because on the rear of the car it only says Si, not 2.0si. I'm also going to give it some further thought as well, because the guys is asking too much for it. He's asking 1800 for it, but I think it should be priced at about 1000-1200 because it some body damage. The front left fender needs to be replaced and the drivers door is questionable but I think its repairable. It also looks like it was bumped into in the rear because the way the rear bumper looks. Its hardly noticable unless your looking right over the top of it, but it has some slight damage. It still has the factory exhaust which seems to be in good shape. I would guess the body damage is worth around $600 atleast just for the left front area. The interior is in decent shape, but the rear power antenna is broken. I have no idea if the a/c still works (until I talk to the guy), the factory alloys are missing the center caps. the tires on the front are a different size than the ones on the rear. I think it has 150k miles on it unless it turned over twice. So obviously this car needs a little tlc so thats why I said fair condition because all in all its in ok shape for being a 16-17 year old car. What do you guys think it could be worth? Or better yet, what price should I try to talk him down to you think if I really want it?
Tan interior....nasty!! try and find one that has black, unless you like the tan, but tan interior that old is usally pretty trashed, look at the engine tag alot of times they have b20a's in them already as the b21's throw rods like crazy cause people dont know how to check there oil.... JDM b20a swap is VERY common... 1800 isnt that great of a price IMO...
yeah I prefer black interior as well over tan. Tan does suck but this cars interior is actually in pretty clean shape . I dont even see any cigarette burns in it! The original paint (looks like original) is to be expected (little faded) but isnt flaking or oxidized. I'm going to try to talk him down. I appreciate all the replies. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what price I should shoot for?
