Default Total Timing 20 ????

Freshly built N/a B20vtec
B16 head type R cams
~11.1 CP ~200 psi cylinders 1,2,3,4
Blox intake
Cheap TriY header
2.5 exhaust
Base timing 16 degees
Cams 0,0
Crome Tuned

1st Dyno session
Dynojet tuned to 145TQ and 205 HP
Baseline was about where the final numbers ended up
adding timimg, adjusting cam gears, vtec X resulted in little or no gain
Total timing WOT....20 degrees???

2nd Dyno session
+ 3 to 5 hp LC and + 5 to 6 hp HC
taking fuel out of LC and HC going from 12.5 to 13.1AFR

That's about it for the background:
The question is why only 20 degrees timing with typeR cams and 200 psi on all cylinders??? Can't imagine hitting MBT so soon.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

20 deg is not really 20 deg, you have to take in for the corrections made by the factory code etc...

Rechecked the base timing last night 16 deg @ 850 rpms
this also matches the Crome real time logs.

Yes, from the advanced tables you can see the additions based on rpm
~2000 + 2
~4000 + 4
~6000 + 9
~9000 + 15

So this means the EDM B16 base maps at WOT 6000rpm are 25.25 + 9 = 34.25
seems like alot of timing to me......am I missign something?

Nope, your just learning.
As long as your not seeing any signs of detonation you shouldn't worry

Not every ems is the same with timing values. 20 deg in the high cam tables using neptune or hondata is not the same as 20 deg in crome, hence the reason tuning is required.

Thanks for the response.
FYI
I just heard from another tuner who uses Crome on a regular basis and he said he has tuned several N/A setups that only required 20-23 degrees. When I get a few more bones together I'll probably go back to the dyno and clean this up.

mtber
Again.....mad props for sharing!!!

think of the numbers in the map as just that, numbers that represent X which output Y.

as long as you are not detonating....all gravy.
