Civic Si 99-00 Vaccum System
Hello,
Does anyone know what is the part number nine on the picture showed?
I have the engine (B16A2 from a 99-00 civic Si) mounted and running in my 96 Hatchback DX, the engine didn't come with that part, since I don't know what it is, right now I have the vaccum port on the intake manifold that goes to that part closed.

If you cant see the picture for some reason the url is https://www.hondapartsdeals.co...arged Image Part for: THROTTLE BODY (DOHC VTEC) from CIVIC 99 2DR SI 5MT KA
Should I get that part? Or is not that important to have installed? Until now I havent had any troubles.
Thanks a lot

Part 9 (above) has a hose that goes to the Cruise Control nipple on the intake manifold (from what I remember that nipple being used for). The other hose labelled as going to "canister" is going to this canister (Part 18, below):

To answer your question, unless you have cruise control, leave it SECURELY capped off. You do not want vaccum leaks from it.
Its also the purge solenoid. #9 i've seen mostly on OBD1 motors, but it mounts on the back of the Intake manifold. #8 is mostly seen one 96+ OBD2 motors and it mounts right on the center of the fuel rail. If you look up 99-00 civic si or ex engine pictures you'll see the #8 style purge valve on the fuel rail. They both work the same way and have the same 2 pin plug.

In addition, the #8 evap purge solenoid for the EX/SI plugs into a nipple on the top of the manifold. If you trace the line coming out of 10, you will see that it plugs into an extra nipple Honda drilled into the manifold. As for that extra nipple where 18 goes into, whoever said that it was for cruise control is correct. There is no solenoid for it. It's just a thin tube that goes from nipple 18 to the cruise control canister #18 in the cruise control pic above.
I believe the difference is strictly that option. Models w/o cruise control use nipple 18 for evap purge solenoid and wouldn't have nipple 10 on it at all. Models w/ cruise control (i.e. EX/SI) would have nipple 10 for evap purge and use nipple 18 for cruise.
So unless you have cruise control in your DX, keep 18 plugged up...

Thanks a lot guys, It's is clear for me now.
Reading all you said and taking a better look to the manifold; I saw that the little protuberance where thread for bolt 14 for the evap solenoid should be, it is not drilled. Now the odd part is that the 18 nipple is there, so I suppose that Honda had it capped off somehow, that assuming the original application didn't have cruise control.
Thanks again
