There is many differences for ef meaning d series transmission from 88-91. They come in 4 speed, 5 speed and auto. The best 5 speed transmission is the L3 si transmission from 88-91 honda crx or civic si only stock.

UDSM Tranmission
CRX/CIVIC Si
CRX or Civic DX
CRX HF
CIVIC STD

You could do a ZC transmission which is gear short or you could do a ZC/Si hybrid transmission. You can search and find all the in on the ZC/Si transmission here or on Google.

For the d16a6 with 1.5 5 speed transmission is geared longer for fuel economy so it's a good thing.

Spelling Much appreciated.

The ZC/Si is just a way to get the gearing a little different ZC is gear so short that people put the Si final drive in to keep the short gears but get a decent RPM on the hwy.

What are you talking about. D16A6 is a 1.6L motor and that is an Si transmission it is geared short and does not give the best MPG in the 88-91 years you need to learn what you are talking about before you post.

dpfi_1.6EFktr don't listen to 1988hondacrxsiR1. Forget what he is telling you.

The best most cost effective option is going to be either ZC or Si. To do the ZC/Si trans you need to actually find two transmission so your spending more $$. Si transmissions are the most common that is what I would look for. If you can find ZC and you want acceleration then get ZC transmission.

I just used the ZC transmission that I had on a D16z6 block. Hydraulic transmissions are too much of a pain with EFs.
