So, I have hot air coming out of the air conditioning vents constantly. I have the air conditioner turned off, the hot/cold thing set to cold and have the fan turned to 0. Still there is hot air coming out once the engine turns warm. Anyone had this happen? Any fixes?

 

it seems you have that recirculating ventilation option enabled. there's a button on the dash that you can push to allow air from outside to ventilate the car. i dont know what car you have so i can't really tell you where it is, but that's what you're looking at.

 

street dream is probably right if it is happening while you are driving then the recirculate button isn't on which will stop fresh air from coming through the vents.

 

Is your car overheating, when my LS was overheating I had hot air go through the vents also...

 

A lot of older cars, and some newer cars have this problem.

Every time I downshift, I can feel hot air coming through my vents. (Talon)

My friends 97 SHO is the same way.

 

maybe heater is just stuck in the hot position .. wire maybe snapped?

I'll check if the air is recirculated or not. It's kinda weird though. When it's cold outside, cold air will come through even though the fan is set to 0. And once the engine gets warm, warm air comes through. And it's not just a little, it's a constant flow, like as if it's set on fan = 1 and warm.

The thing that gets me though is that the fan is set to 0, no air should come through.

It's a 1999.

does the air flow get worse the faster you go cause anything over 50 mph in my 99, I get a little air flow. the faster I go with the the recuculator off, the more air I get coming through my vents. once I push the little button the air flow stops. its the button with the box aroud it

 

I have the same problem, but I have the recirculation on and it still does it. Gets annoying during the winter.

 

My 95 gsr does it to... So is it supposed to Stop with the recirculating button ON or OFF? Cuz I have it 0ff...

 

With the recirculate button OFF, the damper door under the dashboard should be positioned to allow fresh air to come in through the cowl trim. When in this position, there will always be some air coming through the vents while driving. If you pop open the sunroof, it sucks the air inside out, and then even more air comes in through the vents.

How hot or cold the air is should depend on outside ambient air temperature, if the temp slider is set to cold. If it's hot outside and your temp slider is set to cold, fan and A/C off, then the air coming through the vents is still going to be warm. But if it's cold outside, then the air should be fairly cool. If it's not, I'm not sure what the problem could be, other than the air mix control (temp slider) may not be working correctly.

 

It worked. Although, I have to have the recirculate button turned ON for the air to stop flowing. I repeat, when I have recirculate ON, the air stops. Works for me, great! And thank for the help guys.

That's correct, because when you turn recirculate on, it does just that. It recirculates the air inside the car if the blower fan is turned on. The damper door moves to block off the opening under the cowl trim, so no outside air can get in.

If your blower fan is running (with either just outside air, or heat, or A/C), recirculate off, then it brings in fresh air. With recirculate on, it recirculates the air inside the cabin (domestic cars have a MAX A/C setting, which is just recirculate with the A/C compressor turned on).

So when you're driving, blower fan turned off, set to intake fresh air (recirc. turned off), then there's always going to be air coming inside the car. If you turn on recirculate, blower off, car driving, then there will be little to no air movement inside the car.

I personally can't stand having no air movement inside the car. The air will get stale, musty, and humid pretty quick from you breathing.

 

i got a 99 LS, mine does it sometimes, i think its jsut air getting forced thru the vents when the car is moving...not sure tho just a thought

go back a few posts and read patricks input. he is correct 100% about recirculate and how the vents operate.

I have this happening on a 2011 crv, and of course it could do it with fresh air and not recirculating, Problem is there should be not coolant going into the heater core with the heat off. As any vehicle I ever worked on had a valve to turn off the coolant flow to stop that. Because all the warm or hot air coming off the
heater core will do is over whelm the AC on a hot day. So did anyone here go after your heater valve? I have not really studied the problem yet.
