Default 7000 Rpm W/A stock D15????

So I have a 1994 Honda Civic lx sedan. Stock D15b7. Ok so I've had the car for about a year and a half now. And i've been slowly fixing it from a wreck I had a while back. Mainly suspenion and a bumper conversion from stock a stock bumper to a coupe/eg hatch bumper. And just recently the car just started redlineing at a freaky 6800-7000 rpms. Now just a couple of weeks ago the car used to redline at about 5900-6100 rpm. Does anybody have any idea where this new hidden power might have come from???

go higher rpm does not mean its reaching its max hp output..u have to rev it to its max hp output rpm..in your case..your tech might have broken or so..d15 stock engine is 102HP @ 5900 rpm , 98 ft-lbs. @5000 rpm...after 5900 rpm..hp comes down and burn more wasteful fuel

my stock d15b7 revvs out at 7 grand.. hits the rev limtor. but starts hitting the powerband around 4500 Rpms and drops off at 5500 rpms.. or starts to feel like its droppin off.. 7 grand is normal revs..

i don't understand the question
seeing the redline is a physical LINE on the tach, how can this line move?

are you talking about the rev limiter?

what? I hate when people say that. You might make your peak power at 5900 ...but if you shift at 5900, you will bog the HELL out of the next gear. Even a "sporty" trans like an Si (z6) trans will put your RPMs right back at around 5800 or so after you shift at redline (7500 for a z6). This means that even if you do shift all the way at 7k in a d15b7, the trans STILL puts you back down way far out of the power band. I'm assuming you have a DX trans still attached to this motor.

Anyway...the reason to shift at redline is because it takes less time to just rev out the low gear (even if you're not making peak power) than having to wait for the higher gear to rev back up and get back into the power band just to have you shift again. really the only exceptions for an all motor small displacement motor is to shift slightly past the power band in high *** gears like 4th into 5th. Those gears are placed much closer to each other.

OP: I believe that the D15B7 is out of a 92-95 dx/lx correct? If so, that motor should rev to around 6500-6800 RPM. So you're fine. Your motor is not a freak. That's stock redline.

ok im not to sure what the d15b7 is out of. but the 94 del sol S came with it. and i know for a fact the that motor stars power band at about 4200 and drops out of the power band at around 5900-6100. and the point to shifting at the redline is so your next gear dosent drop way below the power band. yes it may drop a little below it but not 2000 grand below.. if it does your shifting WAY to soon

how is it true? you're telling someone to shift out of their powerband as soon as they get into their power band. Try either one of these:

Method 1: Go to the drag strip. Shift RIGHT where your power band is. Then try it again redlining every gear.

Method 2: Look at a common D series dyno chart. even if peak HP is at 5900, the chart doesn't just drop off into oblivion after that. If you shift at 5900, that puts you somewhere around 3k in the next gear (dx trans). Compare the power at 3k to the power at 6.5-7k. Tell me which one is lower. It probably makes like 50 hp at 3k and about 70whp at redline. probably like 85whp at peak.

You're not making any power above 6300 or so...stop being a ricer...

EDIT:
PS: Stock tach probably reads about 500 RPM high at the redline, so optimal shift range on that would be when the tach says 6600 or so.

ok. redline in those motors is like 6500. So i guess we're on the same track. you ricer, you.

I did rev my D16Z6 to like 8k on downshifts a few times. Blowing that motor up was totally like Al Capone being busted by the IRS. After all the abuse it took, the timing belt that i refused to change finally took the motor out.

**** happens.

My GTI saw 10,000 RPM because of a mis-shift. (whoops)

Naw, best one yet was me 'n my friend in his camaro on the highway - he went from 4th to 5th, went too far, slammed it all the way into reverse, rear wheels locked at like 110 on I-84, good ****.

LoL - my Z6 tach has seen 8.3k or so a few times, but only b/c the honda tachs suck - that's not on downshifts either - you can hit 8k on the tach if ur just messing around (dougnuts 'n stuff).

Just shift at like 6500 or so on the tach - anything more than that is a waste b/c ur not making any power, that's all I'm saying .
