Default Oil Filter

I just got a 98 CR-V for my wife. I can't get the oil filter off though. It is a filter. I tried to muscle it off. That didn't work. I got one of those 'six in one' wrenches and it didn't fit on the larger side because of the engine mount. I've tried the various sizes of normal loop-type filter wrenches. None of those work. I was going to try and hammer a screw driver through it, but the only leverage I have to do this is from undernieth, right where my head would be. I've never done that before either. Any suggestions?

Just get some pliers and grab the side of the filter.......i.e. dent the hell out of it. and use the newly made flat part as the thing to grab to rotate the filter.

I had this with my integra....

Two options...

Vise-grip ("the bitch" as one of my SAE friends tore the thing off)
or
Drive a flat head through it (I've personally done this one) and let hot oil come out all over you...then after you run out of room you have to hit another hole into the filter again (did this about 5 times). Ruined a shirt, but got the oil filter off.

Thanks for the ideas. At least it's a CR-V and there is lots of room under there

I always use those oil filter sockets that fit tightly over the end of the filter and allow the use of a ratchet to break the filter loose. Always works like a charm.

There are a few different sizes so you usually have to try a few to find one that fits.

Strap wrenches suck

Screwdriver method - works, but messy as hell

If it's a Honda filter on your CRV, the socket size is 80/15.

Take time to to find a flexable magnet and wrap it around the new filter casing this will stop a good portion of particle from circulating throught the engine slowing down wear on the engine.
does that really work
