How hott before damage?
Ok, I had a coolant line on my iacv split open today and didnt know it, I left work, Got to driving maybe 4 mins, and look down and my temp guage is 3/4 of the way to hot, Thinkin the stat was sticking on me, I rev it quick a few times and the temp drops to half, about 10 secs later it goes to just below hot, I have no where to pull over or do anything, It stayed right below hot for about 4 mins. I filled water a few times to get it to my shop after I hit the edge of town, and it never came past half way again, and I fixed everything now, Do you think I did any damage? oil looks clean no noticible smoke etc, Im new to Hondas so I dont know how they handle heat!
well if you ask ANY honda sevice guy or radiator shop thay will tell you it's ok till yo hit the red. but you want know till it cools down over night. i had a 89 teg that got almost to the white line under hot and it was fine all that day till i let it sit over night and the motor cooled fully. the next morning i had to rev it to 6500 just to get it to move and it smoked like a bitch right off the bat.

Hell no!. You should be concerned if it gets past halfway on the temp. gauge.

It set for about 5-6 hours tonight while I went to town and got a new line and some coolant, and some stuff for our shop. It never even got to the white line, It was below it, I filled the coolant, bled the system, it set another hour, Then drove an hour home, ran and drove fine, other my my iacv is junk so idle sucks
Best thing you can do is fix the cooling line, refill the fluid, and see if your engine starts smoking; white is coolant, blue is oil, black can also be oil, but is probably fuel...
Its all fixed and running cool nowm didnt heat up at all on the way home, I dont feel like doing another headgasket anytime soon, Just finished one on my Yota. Only smoke was from running rich with the bad iacv
its a honda youll be ok as long as you didnt drive it for a long time in the red...
at our shop a tech forgot to put antifreeze in a 99 civic si after he did a waterpump and timing belt, test drove it twice thought it was laggy had another tech beat on it and then had me take it out for a spin bc they know im big into hondas, the poor thing was pinned in red
but we cooled it down and put in fluid and it ran like it never happened
keep an eye on your fluid levels for awhile but i think youll be ok
