Default weird prob with 97gsr

so i have a 97 gsr with a 97 jdm gsr swap. the other day i took off from stop and slowly revved up to about 5 or 6 rpm, then my motor kinda backed off by itself, then immediately came back. right away the check engine light came on...i am completely lost on what this might be so if anyone has any ideas what so ever that would be much appreciated. thanks

i did check the oil, it was about a quart and a half low, so it was pretty low but i put oil into it..and would that cause the check engine light to come on? isnt that what the oil idiot light is for?

you might need to lose a bit more oil for the oil light to come on but you can still lose oil pressure

I almost sounds like it lost spark or fuel for a second. This may be related to the low oil. I am not very firmilar with the DC's so thats my 2 cents. good luck

*correction* vtec is working. just drove it again today and it seemed to be running fine. ill definitely try to get it scanned. does anyone know some ordinary problems that would shoot a code but wouldnt affect the way it runs too bad? and ill check the plugs to make sure im good there..and if i did lose oil pressure could that could have caused damage? and is there a way to check oil pressure?

so i got the scanner today and it pulled up a vtec malfunction due to loss of oil pressure...pretty much hella simple. lesson learned, dont be a dumbass and let the oil get that low. thanks for all the help guys
