Default satellite radio

I was wondering if anybody had bad experiences with satellite radio. I would like to install a sirius unit in my car, wired to my OEM unit. How terrible is the FM modulation? I don't plan on running bass through it, just for easy listening, will it be decent? or should I drop the extra money on the aux imput cable?

Also, wondering where you mounted your unit/ and or, the antenna. And if anybody would show me pics of the install, and or offer some assistance, like a walkthrough or something of that nature, it should be stickied for us electronics noobs ^.^

Thanks, I appreciate your time.

jingles.

Does the unit itself come with the FM modulator built in?
or do I have to purchase a third party unit?

I was told it had it built in , I was also told it doesn't.

Any insight?

most of them do, if you buy a really cheap one it may not have it build in. it might of been just my unit, but i didnt like using the fm modulator, it will probably work fine on other ones. you can always try it out then just wire it in if you dont like the fm modulator.

If you are going to get a third party Sirius unit it will have the FM modulator inside but they are crap. Depending on the age of your unit you can get a Direct Adaptor which plugs into your Sirius and then into the antennas on the back of your car's radio and when you pick a station to broadcast to it blocks all the other FM stations so you get nothing but you Sirius.

Locations in an S would be tricky for a third party. You might be limited to putting it in the windshield. So what I would recomend is getting a new head unit that you can add Sirius to. 1. You wouldn't have to worry about mounting the unit cause everything would be behind you dash. 2. You wouldn't have to worry about the FM modulator cause it would run through a AUX port. and 3. because i told you so.

either one if you need some help with it you can PM me and ill try and walk you through the install.

I have my XM directly into my Pioneer Deck on my S2000 and it displays on the deck as the deck is XM Ready so there is one module that talks to the deck connected to another module that is connected to the antenna

On my other car my beater I have a outboard Unit but it is hooked to the aux in on that deck using a Y cable RCA comes out the deck and goes to the Mini Jack on the side of the XM unit

As far as mounting the pic i posted is the best spot I have found.

XM does not have commericials on there Music channels but they do on there talk channels just Sirius.

what route did you take to get the sirius antenna into the cabin? I tried to go through the trunk, but couldn't find a pass through. Right now I have mine mounted on the windshield and then bringing it in through the fender and door jamb.

Does anybody have any ideas?

You don't need an FM modulator, you can buy an auxiliary input adapter that will plug into the deck where the CD plugs in. Takes 5min to install and you won't get the crappy reception from the FM modulator.

You run the antenna thru the center console under the carpet or directly thru the console. If you remove one of the Plastic trim panels behind one of the seats that has the hooks in and vents it will give you access to the trunk just run the wire thru there and up.

To make it easy place the antenna in the spot in the photo. Open the trunk and run the wire into the trunk then remove the rear trim panels from the trunk. Run the wire thru the trunk and out the plastic panels behind one of the seats and into the center console and into your deck or Receiver. Then put the trim pieces back into place in the trunk and replace the plastic panel behind the seats and your center console.

There is a little to doing it. But it is an excellent spot for reception.
