Default 1995 Honda Prelude vtec Preformance

When I first learned how to drive a manual on my 95 Vtec Prelude it felt like it was really fast compared to other cars. Maybe cuz it was my first time driving a manual. But now it seems as if SUVs are faster than me like in second gear at around 3-5 thousand rpm if i floor it i notice a change in power but i am barely passing Vans and Suvs. I mean at 3-5k rpms flooring it should make a large difference in power right? Seems like there is no throttle response? Maybe cuz its a low torque engine? Keep in mind all i have driven before this are autos (american v6-v8). It just seems like it is now kinda slow. U think this is psychological or do you think something could be kinda wrong or is this normal.

Probably Psychological...

Some SUV's have large engines man, they're not necessarily slow..
I know driving my Mom's Yukon, hitting the gas to half throttle and WOT, is completely different than my Prelude.

When's the last time you did a tune up on your car?? Replaced the Air Filter and other items??

Whoa, you're saying the H22 is a Low Torque engine? As in low on Torque? Compared too??
Or are you saying it's Torque is low on the RPM Band? Which again, I say, compared too??

the 4g prelude vtec is damn fast out of the box.

3-5k is not your powerband though, SUVs will dust you if you stay in that rpm range, they pack some power dude.

I haven't tuned it and i believe the air filter does need to be changed. Should changing the filter really help it? I just heard it has low torque low in the rpm range. thanks

lol. it kinda sucks when an SUV can dust u.

the h23 feels better in the low rpm range than the h22.

a really bad air filter could kill your power i suppose, but a tune would definitely help.

MLBZ wasnt talking about a literal "tune" in the sense of messing with the ECU, he said "tune-up", basic maintenance such as replacing spark plugs, wires, air filter etc...

you're driving out of VTEC.. when those cams lift higher you get more air in and more power out. the forte of hondas =]

depends what gear you are in.

for me to punch my car in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in that RPM range....it has some spunk to it.

Aftermarket cams are the key to this power range....My gains were 3500rpms+
Now the car pulls from 3500 like it did at 4500 before I did Cams.

You don't want to do the basic maintenence? Then don't expect your car to be fast

On a side note, I smoke Tahoes from 3000rpms with my H23

Thats because of this:
95 Prelude SiR-G Type R VTEC RS V-spec

Just don't try to race a 4wd Tahoe from 0-20 when hes in 4wd Low.......
Just for comparison.....there was a 2wd Tahoe running high 15's bone stock at the track one night......enough to have fun!

Check your oil level as well, VTEC's do tend to lose some over time. If it's to low then VTEC won't even kick in.

Not doing routine maintenance (plugs, oil, filters etc) is the quickest way to wreck your engine and make it drive like a slug

I feel my vtec yo.. If I were you, I'd take it to the strip, and get your 1/4 time.... Then you'll come tell us what you ran, and we'll see if your car is ok or not.

If you want more vtak only hit the gas like 70% until the x-over, then floor it right when it hits.

This thread is retarded. Do you want/can you to do something about it or what dude?
