Default CNC Operator / Need ideas..

Hey...

I work at a machine shop in Northern,IL. Im basically in charge of the CNC/Mill department but, i have access to the Lathes.

Im looking for ideas on small things i could make or modify to help out the community that is..Honda-Tech.

The one catch is...it's a production shop so, i dont have a whole lot of time do work on my own stuff. Maybe 45 minutes a day or so but, it takes atleast half that to set-up a job and get all the tooling together, etc.
I mean, it can be done but, lets just keep it to the simple things for now. Then, If i get any ideas..i could set it up, program it and it'll be there so i can get the next ones done with a quickness. Then, if everything is going well.. I might be able to arrange some more time to do what i want.

I've been trying to think of things i could be doing to take advantage of the machines i know how to operate but, again..free time is an issue.

All i've really done so far was made some 02 sensor bungs and I milled .025" off of my brothers catch can cap to get rid of the company's logo that he bought it from.

Eh..if i think of anything else to add, I'll update the thread.

Ok, just some thoughts.. keep it simple.. mill slots, drill holes, flanges, threaded holes, etc.

if you dont have time... you dont have time for racers wanting race parts I'd suggest not taking anything on until you have more time.

post some pics of your work

Ohh come on.. although, i too wish i had the shop to myself, i do have a job to do. Just because i dont have 8 hours a day to use the shop doesnt mean im not going to take advantage of the time I DO have.

Im not going to give up that easy.

Im just trying to get some other people involved with similar interests for ideas. Use your imaginations

Flanges would be easy to make but, they are readily available already.
Maybe im looking to do the more unique projects..the kind of thing that cant be had easily but, not exactly hard to do.

Haha.. Ok, how about this..
Think of something on your car that your not exactly happy with or you could improve if you had access to a machine shop..

Yeah, i guess it would help if i posted pictures of "my work" but, like i said..i havent really done much yet.
Im not looking to get rich or start a "Honda-Tech Business" like some people on this site..
If someone came up with a good idea, i would try to make it happen and hopefully end up with a kick *** end result. then i could post pictures, reviews, etc. and then go from there.

Ok, Ok.. Good idea...and pretty simple.

Just posting these images for people to get an idea of what were dealing with..as far as similar shapes and complexities. He said "Injector Bungs" but just think..what else has a similar design? or..what can i add to that to make it something else? hmm..

(again, im just looking for ideas)

keep em coming!

I used to work at a shop that made these sections of aluminum tubing that had a small bead at the end so you could use them to weld onto intercoolers where a rubber coulpling could connect to. We made 3" and 2.5" pieces. We always called them "Anti crush rings" but maybe there is a more technical term for them.
I would probably be interested in buying something like that. V-Bands are always good too.
Something like these.

I was going to say it myself, but it appears you already did.

A lot of people here do indeed have access to machine shops, and part (majority, actually) of the challenge to being successful at producing a product, is coming up with the product in the first place :D

That being said, theres no money in automotive unless its got a brand logo on it, or its custom. I've found working with local race teams can be a great way to go-

We have a tool at work that does this by hand.. "Swage" tool is what it's called.. or "spinning jenny".. it will only do thin wall pipe.. basically stops hoses popping off..
