HELP- 96 Prelude S model has an alarm going off!! I don't even have an alarm on it.
The prelude won't start. There is some kind of alarm going off, but I have had the car for three years and never used an alarm on it. There is no horn going off but the hazard lights are blinking. I try to turn the car on and it doesn't turn over. Anyone have an idea on what it could be? I didn't see any fuses for an alarm either. I tried jump starting the car and that didn't work. Its this alarm problem not letting me turn the car on.
thanks.
thanks.
just a guess...maybe this is the notorious ECU immobilizer, but I thought 96 was the year that DIDN'T have it...what ECU is it?
Your car probably has an aftermarket alarm on it. Look under the dash on the driver's side for cut or spliced wires and a small box that the cut or spliced wires go into. you can do one of two things once you find the box: 1 remove the box and put your wiring harness back to stock or 2 get the name and serial number and go to keylessride.com to get a remote for it.

Thanks for the help. What I ended up doing was push starting the car and drove it home
from work. It drove with the silent alarm on. Which is no horn and no blinking lights. Just
a clicking noise as if I had the hazard lights on. I get home unplug the battery, plug it back and no the car was fine.
theresyourproblem- your right there was not an immobilizer on the 96 model, but there was something after-market on the car. You could see some work done under the steering column.
Cheers

Thanks Slamlude. I searched and found this thread. My car has the same symptoms and I'm hoping I can find a way to disable what was on the car before I bought it. My 96 lude doesn't have an alarm, but it has a ghetto "kill switch" that the previous owner showed me that I never used. I bet that's what's throwing it off.
Wish me luck. I'm sure I'll find a nasty nest of wires. I may need to post pics and get your help with next steps.
