Noise under the hood when I turn my lights on?
Hello all, I just have a quick little question. I'm not sure if this is normal, but whenever I turn on my headlights when the car is running I hear a noise from under the hood that sounds like the engine is straining (kinda like with a/c). I have no idea what this is or if I should be worried about it. '93 civic 5speed.

ewww...that sounds bad. logically thinking, it is probably putting a strain on the motor. i would have the alternator and battery tested. they can do both at the part store w/o you removing them from the car, just drive up and they test.

it sounds normal by turning the lights on you created a load on the battery. In turn the alternator provides more power to keep the battery charged and this creates a load on the engine.
