Default Cylinder wall chip. GSR block.

I'm in need of a GSR block.
I found one but it has a small chip on the bottom of cylinder 1. It's a pretty deep chip about a centimeter or two above the very bottom. I want to know if this will affect compression in any way. Does the piston ring go all the way to the bottom of the cylinder?
Need your help. Thanks.

No, but you could damage the piston skirt. Sounds like you need a bore and hone.

Ok. I didn't think of that.
The block is gonna get a hone for a new set of P30's but not a bore. Thanks. Gonna double check on that.

So will shaving a little off that chip help and not affect performance?

i wouldnt try and shave down on it your self. take it to a machine shop. ask them if its within reason to hone it might get by with that.

It appears there's more damage in the cylinder. Machine shop said if I want to keep the standard bore, they can order a sleeve for that one cylinder (other three will be fine with a hone) and re-sleeve it for me. They gave me a very good price compared to the Benson and Darton sleeves.
Has anyone ever done this?

ask them if it was more than say a .50 bore might get by with just buying like some .50 over type r pistons or somethin have some fun and be creative while you got it apart. but it very well may just be that fucked up i dunno hadn't seen it first hand.

No. They said it's gonna take atleast 1mm over. And if I'm gonna do that, might as well go to 84mm and that's gonna cost too much for me.

If youre really not looking to sleeve, Why not just get another block thats already in decent shape? Does the one you have hold some sentimental value or something? Babies first VTEC?

Just want to stay the standard 81.
Out here in Guam, very rare to find a short or bare block.

if the machine shop is gonna have to shave 1mm or more off the cylinder wall than ur gonna need new sleeves. if u cant afford to do it than maybe just either sell it or hold on to it till u have enough money to resleeve it. do not attempt to build it like that with stock sleeves.
