Vtec-E.... Post it if you kept it!
I'm starting to really be glad I bought my 95 Civic VX due to the amazing mileage it has given me. I was just wondering how many people out there didn't swap out the vtec-e motor (so this includes the HX models of the 96 up civic also) for something with more performance. Though the tuner community loves to make-fun of these gas sipping vtec-e models, the people who really care about MPG are buying these models up to save some cash and help the environment.
Personally, I restored my VX to near-OEM condition (minus the ride height) to make an amazing highway cruising car that is damn comfortable on the pocket.
Here's some pics!

I sense a lot of flaming will be encountered in this thread, but WTF, lets see some gas-sipping, OEM Honda pride.

I forgot the fits have vtec-e too.
The best I've gotten so far in my VX was 52mpg, but with some fuel saving mods I'm planning to do when I get back (and not beating the hell out of it like I often do), it should get around 60mpg I'm guessing.
If you know the MPG yours gets, post that up too.

I don't know what you're talking about with losing mpg when you swap. I had a 92 cx with a 11.5:1 b16 and gsr tranny. At 55mph I drove from Portland to Seattle and got 51 mpg. I babied it the whole way

If you're interested in seeing some people with Vtec-e and mileage sometimes hitting 70mpg and over, check out gassavers.org. It's kind of an extremist MPG-monger´s site, but it's damn interesting to see how you can make an already super-efficient Honda get even BETTER gas mileage.
I don't know why, but it seems Honda USA gave us the Fit's with the worst mileage out of the entire world-market. In other countries they can easily hit 50mpg, but the ones here they seemed to tune more as sporty-compacts instead of MPG queens like the old vtec-e models were.

I would say you are damn damn lucky. It might have been somewhat of a fluke though considering it was one trip. But if you average that type of mileage on the highway, hat's off to you.
With my old 95 LS (which was basically stock), I was getting around 38mpg on the highway being pretty nice to to, and I thought that was impressive for a B series. But then again, a small displacement b16 in a CX would be a lot more efficient I'm sure. If you had a tune on it that was more for economy, I'm sure that helped you out a lot too.

Make sure you get what it's worth! Most Vx´s seem to sell for 500-1000 dollars more than the DX/CX counterpart. Advertise it on gassavers.org if you didnt already find a seller, and if it's in nice shape, someone there will probably have some interest in it. People there are crazy about finding HF crx's and VX EGs, but they seem to be harder and harder to find with the original motors intact, and not riced out beyond repair.
I'd love to see some more gas sipping cars in this thread! I'm away from my VX right now, so I'm missing my vtec-e goodness.

I was amazed that the bseries did that well also. It just had a stock GSR ecu. The compression was kind of an estimate, it was a jdm b16, ctr pistons, and a stock gsr head.

actually it isn't. i drive this to college every day and we had a super hot stretch about 2 weeks ago. it's slow as hell compared to my integra so i tend to rev it pretty high. i also have an intake on it so i'm flooring it a lot too. granted, this is mostly highway driving.
i also have gotten as high as 35 mpg in my gsr but i never hit vtec on that tank.

Traffic kills the avg.
Stop and go for 2 hours a day doesn't help.
I used to get around 49-50 mpg on normal trips. Car is rated for 49/51
(and i'm on FN01r's with ricer dunlops on it, oem are rated for low resistance rated. )
Keep us updated with your mpg!

Yeah, those tires are quite famous on the gassavers.org board for people to swap onto their VXs.
I didnt realize they got that kind of mileage, considering the VX is rated at 39/50 (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm), I figured it would be beyond that by at least a bit.
Good luck with your Honda. If you haven't already, you should check out gassavers.org, they have quite a few tips for keeping you mileage high, and a lot of car on there with MPG ratings that make you say, "wow."
