Default major problem...what did i do???

had my TWM SS and cable bushings installed for a month or so...love it! well i took the SI up through some twisties saturday. kept it in 3rd gear most of the time and between 4-6k rpm. on the way home i went to hit 3rd gear at 8k and miss shifted and the shift felt very weird. so i tried it again and bam another missed shift. weird...havent missed a shift in the 6k miles of ownership.

figured it was just me. woke up the next morning and couldnt find reverse it just wasnt there...it was like empty space and it had just gone away. so i drove around and noticed just about every gear was screwed up. took the shift **** off and re tightened the SS and everything and was good to go. well the same thing happened today i cant shift fast into any gear and reverse is gone. this is what it looks like...could this sleeve be the cause of the problem? please help...i have never power shifted this car and at a complete loss. this is my 5th manual car for the record

you probably jacked up something when you installed the ss & bushings.

I had the exact same problem with my supra turbo a while ago. found out the screws holding the shifter to the transmission itself wasn't tighten (all 4 of them!)

I was installing short shifter on it a couple days b4.

it woulnd't go into 1st, 2nd gear, or 3rd, i drove 5 miles in traffic with 4th gear lol. needless to say, my clutch died soon after.

make sure you installed the ss & bushing right & properly. check and double check. if not, you probably jacked up the car driving it improperly.

yep agreed....weird that a couple people on the 8th have had this happen as well and they all have the cable bushings. luckily my buddy is a service advisor so he will do what he can under warranty

Misshift; Verb: A shift that ends up breaking some ****.

Example: I misshifted my car, broke some **** and now im posting on Honda-tech trying to figure how to shoulder it on something other then my inability to drive correctly.

i guess you could explain it that way haha...i never hit redline on the miss-shift and nothing out of the norm occurred.

its at the dealer right now...looks like the rubber sleeve that goes over the cable became disconnected. ill know more shortly

if u are taking it to the dealer, REMOVE those parts!!! especially if u think that it might have caused the plm. the dealer will most likely try and blame it on YOU. especially if they find aftermarket parts on there. take it from someone who knows. i just hope u didnt f up the clutch. "the clutch is like a brake pad. its a wear and tear item and is NOT covered." that is, not unless "its a premature failure of a drive train component." take the short shifter off if possible and the bushings and THEN take it to the dealer. dont know if u already took up there or not, but get em off and then get it up there. it might just be a metal shaving stuck in one of the synchros or something. good luck with the dealer!!!

maybe you stretched the cable...

bottom line is remove the parts, as mentioned, no matter who you know at the dealership...

Call those canucks over at TWM and see if they have any input

well good news guys...dealer is covering it under warranty. i took it to the dealer with the TWM cable bushings installed (i threw the stock ones out, doh)

the cable is in fact bent/stretched and some plastic piece is busted. dont know what part exactly there talking about. the cable and piece is on national backorder so my dealer is under the impression that this might be a more common problem then we think. the sun visors are also on back order.

ill report back once i get the car back. hes checking with the sales manager to pull the parts off a brand new SI on the lot so i dont have to wait 1-2 weeks, i didnt complain

Check the cable bushing cables (They are probably snapped) you could have accidentally bended one of them during the install. Check them out this is a common occurrence if you werent' careful on the install.

its the shifter cable. The same thing happened to me with my twm ss but mine happened on the test drive. You will probably need to replace the cable if its stretched or kinked.
