catback exhaust question
I am waiting on buying expensive name brand headers because of tight money right now, so i am looking into buying an Ebay catback exhaust.
Will these effect emissions? Can I just buy an ebay catback, or does it have to be CARB certified?
Something like this:

Also, if you just put on exhaust, what does it do for power & performance? What is the performance difference between a catback, and just a tip exhaust? Because obviously there is a major price difference.

Well for starters:
1. The emissions difference will not be much different than the stock exhaust because of the fact that it's bolted on after the cat-and depending on where you live, it's not a big enough difference to effect if you pass, or fail the emissions test.
2: There is little to NO beneficial gain to adding a tip, to your exhaust. Why people bother, other than the annoying sound? I don't know. But the only real difference you will see is buying a cat-back exhaust. After you purchase a header and a(n) exhaust system for your car, I wouldn't expect to get more than 50hp(at the most). And thats probably pushing it.
Another note-you should check on the size of the exhaust.. because if it is too big(radius wise) it will do you more harm, than good.

So basically, just buying a catback wont give me much gain..?
Is there a way to tell what sort of tone a tip or catback will give out?
This 3.5" tip claims that it will increase HP; what does everyone else think?

Do you think this tip would effect my emissions or smog at all, or do I need to worry about a CARB number for this product?

i've heard that with stock gen6 motor.. you shouldnt get more then 3" exhaust .. is that true? because im looking at a couple of catback exhausts for 99accord coupe v6 .. and also ive been checking out some cat backs on ebay .. are they good? i mean do they worth the money?

pwahaha, try more like 20hp. our F series dont respond well to bolt ons.

Well, that's why I said 50 hp was probably pushing it.
Also, adding a cat-back exhaust system will benefit you man. What I was saying, is adding just a tip, will not benefit you much at all, if nothing. I'm not sure of the specs for the size of the exhaust, but 3.5 is awefully big. Personally, if I had to guess on the size to use... I would say from 2.5-3.0. But just as a tip man, watch how big you get it, if you get the exhaust too big, you'll lose back pressure.
