Default Vtec not working all the time..plz look.

This is kind of a weird problem. Everytime I go to hit vtec, you can't hear crossover at 5k but it starts pulling harder. 1st and 2nd, I can hear a slight crossover. 3rd-5th cant really hear anything. Could I be hitting vtec sometimes and other times no? Any real way on to test this?

btw: it's a b16a converted to obd1(dizzy, injectors, ecu), chipped ecu(vtec at 5k), new vtec selonoid, stock headers and exhaust. real quiet.

Hook up a light, and see if it goes on. The throttle has to be open a certain amount for vtec to kick in.

The vtec wires, vtec operates when it received the voltage at the solenoid.

You know that if you are reving out the gears you wont really hear the crossover because if you rev out say second you are going like 60-65mph and you are already at 8000 rpm's so when you go into third your rpm's drop to say 6500-6700 or somewhere above 5000 rpm's. This means that you are still in vtec the whole time so no crossover occurs. Now if you are in third below 5000 rpm's and rev over that i dont think you would notice it as much as in first or second so you probably are hitting vtec the whole time and just not noticing it.

One thing you could do is have a buddy ride with you and check power at the ecu for the wire going to the vtec solenoid when you are in third-fifth and if it gets power it is working.

Depends on a few things, what kind of cams you have, what kind of intake you have, all things can effect the sound.

You will be able to hear it in first, with out a problem. As for third and forth, you should already be in vtec no matter what if your going that fast.

the vtec sound varies depends on the motor oil you are using.

x2....but having a filter on the TB will lose power compared to having the stock airbox hooked up in most situations....

And with all your internals stock and all, the best way to check it is the method with a co pilot and a test light.

True. Plus

Vtec will be louder though cause the intake noise does not have to travel back threw the intake.
