VSS problem??
this is wierd and driving me insane. i hope i can get it fixed before Roebling at the end of this month.
I had no problem untill I removed my dash and SRS and put it all back together.
My speedo wont register anything, and usually after about 5 mins of driving a CEL will show up. I checked, and it was code 18 (or whatever but VSS)
But i was running the car yesterday, no speed showing, and no CEL.
I checked the wires at the dizzy, they are all connected fine. I checked the shock tower junction, everything is fine. all the wires are fine at the ECU, and at the guage cluster.
The only things I removed permantly were all of the SRS components, (air bags, wires, brain box), and the wires for the climate control system, and the a/c blower and condenser.
anyone have any idea or clue whats going on or tests to perform? i was going to check the voltage at the VSS but I couldnt find my voltmeter.
i didn't see you mention if you checked the wires at the VSS itself?unplugged?wires damaged?
break out the Helm.check all associated wires for shorts/breaks.do the troubleshooting procedures for the VSS and speedometer.

oh yeah I forgot to mention I checked the VSS. I couldnot get the plug off but i pulled out the VSS and there was grime on the plastic wheel.
I dont have a Helms just a haynes and its kind of hard to follow.

maybe srs shares a common ground by the cluster? maybe it is connecting intermittently. not only check to see is the plugs are plugged in, make sure a pin from a plug did not back out slightly

the ground might be something....I will try that to see if it works.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Mista Bone »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">clean the connector at the VSS unit, cures 99% of CEL 17 issues.

I hear this is a common issue, my vss decided to go out on me after I pulled it at summit last month to change the tranny fluid. I just said, free miles on the race kaa
