my car does not start sometimes after a few hours of sitting and definately will not start after a few days of being parked. my battery gets drained and i have little power when i try starting it, and it wont start. i hook up the jump start cables and before it would crank right up. but now even with enough power, it doesn't! it sounds as if the starter theeth were broken, i can hear metal grinding & spinning.

can my starter be busted?

i whacked it a few times with a hammer and screwdriver and nothing!

Sounds like you had one problem that led to another. Started out with somthing draining your battery. then from the constant abbuse of high load low voltage situations and jump starting you knocked the solinoid out of your starter.

 

if thats the problem do i need a new starter?

 

yep

 

and find out what was killing the battery. or see if the battery just has bad cells that make it go low on its own.

 

i have the optima yellow top battery. i kindda doubt it's that!

 

lol that doesnt mean much i had a yellow top for like 2 months and it caught fire and they wouldnt replace it =P
