Yes another ignition switch question.
I have a 99 lude that the ignition switch is DEAD. Found out for the first time on the interstate yesterday with it shutting itself off a few times driving 80 on the road lol. Then when i got home it wouldn't shut off at all, i had to put it in 5th and put the e-brake on to kill it, then had to kill all power from the battery. Now i can't even get teh car to start.
Now i know there was a recall on these and im sure mine never was replaced from the previous owners but i can't even get the car to the dealership without paying for a tow truck. Nearest dealer would be expensive for a tow. My two question are, do you think the dealer woudl reimburse me the money for the tow since it was there part that failed? And if not then if i just purchase the ignition switch does anyone have a link to a how to on the 5th gens? Seen one for a 4th gen but not 5th. Sorry for the long post. Thanks.

there's a way to start your car by connecting a piece of wire to your battery and another part of your motor, but i can't remember how to do it. someone else chime in?

well the problem that i am coming across is the ignition thinks that it's on the accessory part...so when i try to turn it off, it won't so i had to disconnect the battery. But i can't turn it to completely on to start the car since it thinks it's stuck in accessory.

What years did the recall apply to? I have a 2000 that refuses to start sometimes but it always fires eventually after turning the key 20 times.
i was told 97 to 2000 or something like that, i know it was after 97 but i can't remember how high they went up to....just call your dealer and see what they say.

yes yours is in on that recall. There's the link for it too. Just take it to the dealer and have them replace it.
