Default bad temp. gauge??

Alright guys here's the deal. Whenever I am driving down the road my temp. gauge will bounce around from anywhere from above the "H" to below the "C" I have a new thermostat and I also put in a new temp. sending unit (the piece that is below the distributor that screws into the head). It's not overheating or anything like that and it's is running just like it always has. The only thing I can think of now is that maybe the temp. gauge in my cluster is bad or going out. What do you guys think? For your info it's a '91 hatchback with a Y8 mini-me swap in it with the STD bottom end...also there are no check engine light or anything like that. When that car is sitting in my driveway it doesn't do any of this...only when I'm driving.

Almost definetely your cluster, swap it out with a known good one and I'll bet your problem goes away

could be one of the three screws that hold the temp gauge in the cluster is loose. This can cause a fluctuation because it is not grounded securely.

alright guys....instead of starting a new thread on this I decided to just keep this one. I put a different cluster in and it's still doing the same thing. But now also my turn signals aren't working. I put the old cluster back in and the turn signals still don't work. I checked the fuse and it's fine. I turned my lights on and the corner lights come on they just don't blink. What's going on here, anyone know??

Check the flasher relay for the turn signals. Do you hear a buzzing noise when you turn them on?

As for the temp. guage, the wire could be shorting out somewhere or is broken.

Alright guys, I got it all figured out and the car is working fine right now. I'm gonna start off with the turn signal problem. When I plug everything back into the new cluster I didn't know you had to plug in the hazard switch to make the signals work.

Now to the temp. gauge problem. This is a little strange but oh well. When I first found out about my gauge being retarded I changed the t-stat...that didn't do anything. The next step I took was to change the temp. sending unit. So I went down to the part store and got one for a '98 Civic EX, since that is what my head is from. Well my temp. gauge kept doing the same thing so I got a different cluster and it was still doing the same thing. For some reason I got something in my head saying to change the temp. sending unit back to the old one. I did that and now it works just fine right now. Thanks guys for all your help and I'm sorry for the damn novel I just wrote....lol
