Default Don't buy Distributor King Distributor

Hi guy, just so you know...don't buy form DK ! I bought a brand new distributor for my sister Summit wagon 2.4 awd (rebadge mitsu) a year ago. Good price, nice sale service but then, a year later, the distributor ceased to work. I try to contact Sylvain Carrier 5 times to honor the lifetime warranty sold with the distributor. Not a single answer. As I live in Montreal and the official address of is company is in Montreal, I decided to go there, and talk with someone. Well, the address is actually a private apartment room without any answer.

So here's my tip, if you need a distributor, don't buy it from DK. It's a poor product and he doesn't stand behind it.

I wanted to let people know because at that time, threads here saying it was a perfect buy convince me to buy from him. I don't want other guys to make the same mistake I did...

Do you have any info on why it failed ? A Honda OEM one could fail also in a year, it does not mean its junk though.

I have heard of hundreds if not thousands of good things about DK (including a few purchases made by myself).

I think you might need to realize that electrical parts do not last forever. Heck you may have electrolosis all over your motor due to a bad alternator that may be causing premature electrical failure. If in that case, they would not warranty it.

I'm sure it was a shipping error, come on you think a company would really send a broken cap ?

That thing had so much hot foam poured in to protect it, I don't see how it could have been damaged, so I'm guessing that the hairline crack in the cap was never seen as it was boxed up.....I'm just lucky I had another cap handy.....

I'm not saying not to buy DK dizzys, just adding my $.02......

i had one for a year and it worked flawless. I had a issue with the car, so I called DK and thought it was the dizzy. Sent mine back and 2 days later I had a brand new one in my hands. Turned out it wasnt the dizzy after all, but hey I just got a new dizzy again

i purchased a 99-00 b16 dizzy from them a year ago. it sat for 8 months and it was dead upon install on the swap. called them up and i received a new one 3wks later.

then after 2 months on the car the tach started jumping around. called and emailed & recieved no answer. i opened it up, installed my old [130k] D16 igniter and it works like a charm.

it seems to be a hit or miss with them

My first DK distributor made it to about 30,000 miles before the magnet on the shaft that runs the angle sensors began loosening itself causing CEL's and misfires. The distributor rotors kept loosening itself - I even used Loctite Red.

I sent Pat pictures and described what was going on and he still needed me to send in the distributor. The "official" cause of the replacement was listed as a bad coil. Nothing was mentioned of the magnet. I sent the distributor in and got a new replacement.

Last week I started feeling a misfire and I've got the same issue - loose distributor rotor and a loose magnet!

Since the replacement distributor is failing and my time is worth more than another "free" replacement, I'm going to buy an OEM housing and swap the parts in.

You pay for what you get..

Can't expect alot from a complete dist for under 200 dollars shipped..
A OEM acura, honda one is like what 500-600 bucks ?

I have had mulitple problems with these off shore units.
Poorly made parts that seem to fail after a year or so..
Ignitors, coils that start to cause stalling problems etc..

So you pay for what you get..
For the under 200 dollar price you get a good deal.

regardless if they make a good or bad product, they didn't honor their warranty according to the maker of this thread. so they should give him a new one.

All aftermarket Dizzys are going to fail. I would say within a year or two. Thats just from my experience's. The parts that they put inside them are just crappy. There is a reason why Honda's and Acura Dizzys are so much new. I always try and sale my customer a used oem unit over the New-Aftermarket ones. Even tho the used one is a little more. The quality is just way better. That just my opinion.

Ive had my DK distributor for almost 3 years...
Since then,Ive replaced the igniter twice and it is leaking oil through the shaft seal...I thought it was the distributor O-ring,but after repeated leaks,I took the cap off and looked INSIDE...AAAAHHH. Its been leaking through the shaft the whole time...
I learned my lesson...You get what you pay for...

mines been good for me for 2 years now. the rotor screw is not actually screwed into the hole. TH DK rotors are a straight push in...Even though its a push in it was locked down tight in there. Took me a long amount of time to take it off. Certainly I just felt like I should replace it with an OEM Rotor and screwed it on there....DK gets a thumbs up from me!!
