Default Bad shake/wobble on interstate

I was on interstate 80 today and all of a sudden my car started to shake and wobble violently so i pulled over and thought my tire was flat or something. But i could not find anything wrong. So i kept going and it would shake alittle when doing 60mph but as soon as i would leave off the gas it would start again and you could feel and hear the thumping in the floor boards. That went on for 30+ miles then i slowly went away. So i get back on regular roads and i can feel alittle thumping but barely. What could it be? I was thinking the axle but im not sure.

Take it to a local tire shop and have them check your tires for balance, and while they are at it have them check for play in the tie rod's, and ball joints. If you have never replaced them in the last 35k-60k, chances are they have gone out. Tie Rod ends are a easy fix, just requiring you to take your car to get an alignment afterwards. Good Luck!

have you bothered to take your tires off and inspect them?
and also take a look in your wheel wells to inspect your ball joints/axles/tie rods?

My tires are new, why would it be a ball joint? It feels like the axle.

if it's all of a sudden then it's likely the ball joints or you got a "knot" in your tire.

Are the tires old?

Ya, crawl under your car and look at the CV joints. My Jetta started doing that, then I saw one of the boots busted on the CV joint...

the things that balance your tire can fall off..........start there.......inspect your rims....make sure they all have them on there........whens the last time you got an alignment....and check to make sure they all have the same/correct tire pressure....then check suspension parts

What would be the symptoms of a bad tie rod?

shaking at speed, but not a constant shake nor an extremely violent one. could be wheel bearing also. get it inspected by a mechanic, should be able to determine a problem quickly if you give them the symptoms.

This is simple. Put a floor jack under the lower control arm and jack the car up. Grab the tire and wiggle it side to side and up and down and check for play. do it to both sides. If you don't find anything replace the axle. Is the car lowered? cause that kills axles way faster than it normaly takes for them to wear out.

stop freaking bumping this thread. They told you to crawl under your car and look things over. Could be a lot of things. Personally I would think that maybe you tore a cv boot and that the cv joint is now bad. So stop bumping this thread and either go crawl under your car or take it to a mechanic.
