Default Ebay Exhaust?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

Anyone with experience of thoughts on the legality, sounds, performance and reliability of something like this as opposed to paying 500-600 for a name brand?

the piping is fine (mandrel bent) but other than that i would just change out the muffler and CAT to a name brand type.

haha, he thinks DC is a good header. That header sucks. they gain like 5 HP... Let me tell you... thats well worth $400. ha. He is better off getting that setup in the pic because it had the same design as DC and pretty sure has the same performance as it. Plus it has the bling factor that people like. the exhaust is pretty much an okay exhaust. I hope your not expecting to get any kind of real gains out of these products. If your going for looks then fine these are perfect for you. If you really want to get any HP, you should get the megan racing header and cut the collector off and weld on a 2.5 in and then get a better cat and muffler. But still you have a d-series motor. you might gain 8 HP at the most

If you buy that exhaust, you get what you pay for. It's an alright exhaust at the most. I had it on my Integra. It's quiet but has throat at higher RPMs. You might be happy with the item. But I guarantee you that the test pipe wont pass ANY emissions. Get a Magnaflow cat. I got one for $60 and even though it's still in the box I'm sure it'll pass emissions. Check it out and let me know if you like it. It's comparible to DC Sports. F'ck the haters of Ebay items. Some are garbage, some are OK.

Only get the vibrant muffler if your in for the stock looking style and like the low note. Its pretty nice sounding when your in WOT though. If you like those canister types get a namebrand one.

i have ebay header ebay test pipe/rsonator and HT sponsor 170 shipped exahust...total cost was 240 shipped. i have yet to dyno.

but i can go up hills way easier since i live in mountains its really noticeable.

if i were to spend the extra 800 on brand name stuff then i would probably gain another 3-4 hp maybe.

either way im willing to bet my exhaust sounds better then 70% of teh exhaust on here...its completely deep all the way to redline infact its sorta quiet.

i think this is due to the fact i am running a resonator and the resonator and the muffler...

my muffler tip isnt exactly my style at a 4 inch tip but again 240 shipped i cant complain.

these are the only pics of my exhaust

I just purchased an exhaust kit and headers from ebay, along with a magnaflow catalytic converter. When it all comes i'll try and do a write up on everything from installation to NJ state inspection to help other readers out.

either that or you'll make a thread about how nothing lined up at all and that the parts you bought were complete crap.

ebay is pretty hit or miss with quality, you see some good, and some bad, i personally don't like to gamble on getting a decent part.

just my opinion

i completely agree...and truthfully i dont buy generic **** on my cars ever.

only this time my OEM header cracked oem used was 90 shipped and my exhaust ripped off and it was cheaper to get a exhaust on here for 170 shipped.

another thing i am going to turbo so i dont need anythign expensive on there since im not going to be using them for long.

the probelm with cheaper **** like ebay stuff are the poor welds,

most commonly they suffer from

-poor penatration or too hot depending (this is amperage)
-not even on the Heel of the weld or joint
-travel speed = too quick
-length of arc might not be close enough producing weak spots.

places like china, mexico, tawian dont really care about what skill these people have. as long as you can hold the arc and genrally produce a satasfactory looking well sometimes not even that weld you're hired.

i doubt they TIG anything as usally it requires more skill and time, im willing to bet these exhausts are stick welded or "arc" welded. judging by the uncleaned splatter and sometimes unground slag, nothing wrong with stick welding just not as purdy

industrial welding and high pressure pipe are usally SMAW welded. i havent seen one of the manifolds up close yet.

but i have seen these shitty exhuasts.

again there is a great disdain from the non welding community on SMAW welding practices, it actually is very useful. it is not as easy as people tell you and just becuase the people on TV use shielded gas welding doesnt mean that the welds are stronger or better. each process, wire thickness, rod and gas has its own place on its own metal. you want to learn all types of welding.
