H4 LS engine question
First let me start off with this car is only a DE car and will only ever be a DE car as long as I own it.... its a 96 Integra RS. I was planing to swap in a GSR or TypeR later this year but after more thought I figured the car would need a brake upgrade done at the same time and right now my play budget is on the restricted side (growing up sucks). So I was wondering what really can be done on the cheap to massage a few more ponies out of this engine. I have the cheapo DC sports header and ubiquitous AEM intake on the car. After reading the HC rules it appears that an over bore, port work and shaving the head are about it. The engine has excellent compression #'s and is putting down 119whp and 110fpt. I really don't want to go through the hassle of an over bore, but do these engines respond that well to porting and shaving the head. I have heard of ITA and H4 LS engines over 140 whp.....
Just a note as to what else has been done to the car...
Kirk role bar
6-pt harnesses
Comptech 7lb flywheel
Ultrasheild pro road race seats
new, wheel bearing, axles, radiator, bushings...... complete refresh
so now I'm looking for a little more power.
Thanks for any info.

A set of Brian Crower Stage II cams for that thing will change your life.

I'd through some type of tunable ECU at it, and see what you can come up with.
then if you aren't happy

140hp is pretty easily attained with a LS motor. I have not overboard, ported or posished my engine. The engine has not been blue printed of balanced and I make 140hp at the wheels.
A good free flowing exhaust, a CAI and tune the ECM will get you close. A light weight flywheel and light rims will help too!!!

I think that the exhaust is a big problem... Still 145,000 mile stocker is probably a big hindrance
The car dose have a light flywheel and Kosie TS1 11LB wheels so I guess a High flow cat 2.5 inch exhaust and a good tune are needed. Thanx for all the help guys.
What about just running a TypeR exhaust.

and an OBX cat????

A good header, exhaust, and tuning are your friends. That's how those guys are making those numbers for the most part. If you don't care about HC legality (I'm guessing you don't) cams will be one of the best things you can do with that motor, definitely.

It's not a bad idea, especially since those cams want to rev higher than the stock redline, but if you DON'T rev higher than that (6900 or whatever) you should be fine.
