What Swaps are fully legal in Cali?

Hi, i'm just wondering whats legal and an easy swap? i know that you have to have it the same year or newer. and how about JDM motors are they legal? if so i
thinking about the the ZC, was that a JDM motor or usdm? i'm thinking about that one or a LS, if it was LS wich year would it be the 90-93 or 94 and up? maybe even a sohc vtec? or b16s....?????????? please give me some info.......

ZC is a JDM only motor. It wasn't made in the states.

Basically any engine that is from that model year or newer can be done legally if all emissions equipment is hooked up.

My friend just smogged his 94 CX Hatch with a USDM 95 GS-R engine in it that he bought from importautosalvage.com. He went to the ref with his receipts and they passed him and gave him a sticker. He said they looked everything over and ran the serial # on the block to verify that it wasn't stolen.
