Some of my friends drive autos and routinely turn their cars off while in Drive (like if they're running inside a convenience store or something real quick) instead of putting them in Park. I'm just curious as to whether or not this is harmful to auto trannys.

 

every auto i've driven won't let you take the key out if the selector is still in drive
