question about h22a rebuilds
i am goin to boost my motor so i did my research and they told me that i should resleeves my bottom block.. i bought my aftermarket pistons and sleeves.. i dont kno if i should rebuild the head also. so please giv me any help.
head work really opens them up. I would say that after my build (sleeving, rods, pistons, balancing.....) that the head work I had done helped a ton. Unless you are building a high compression motor, or your old motor was in really bad shape, you are not going to notice much if any of a performance difference from building the bottom end. It will just be strong to handle whatever you want to throw at it. Head work is what makes the difference. I use a pretty large turbo, and head work helped me spool about 1000 rpm lower, and pull HARD all the way to redline. Find a notable shop in your area to do, and even if you don't want to shell out the cash to have them do a full on performance build, definately have them tear the head down and replace the valve stem seals and check all of the valves, valve springs, retainers, valve seats, and at least pressure test it for cracks. For boost at least do titanium retainers. You run the risk of knocking a valve through the OEM retainers at approx 350hp. So it's worth it for piece of mind. Also, figure out if you are ever going to want to run E-85 or E-100 once you get your tubo done, because that will be a good time to put vitinol valve stem seals in instead of OEM.
