tire size question.
i did a search and couldnt find what i needed. i have a usdm type r with the OEM wheels. im wanting to get bf drag radials for the track event coming up and they have them in 205/50/15 and 225/50/15. would the 225 fit ok will no problems rubbing when turning or should i stick with the 205?
thanks

Do you mean that this is for a dragstrip event? Because if it's on an actual track, with turns and so forth, other tires are better choices than the drag radials.

I'm actually happier with 215's on a 7", they fit much better with less slop on turn-in.

You can't just talk about treadwidth and wheel width without talking about wheel diameter and tire size; what fits for a 15" tire might not work for a 16" tire, etc. For example, 205/40-16 is usually approved for wheels 7.0-8.0 inches wide, 205/45-16 for wheels 6.5-7.5 inches wide, and 205/50-15 for wheels 5.5-7.5 inches wide - three different wheel width ranges for three tire sizes with the same treadwidth. Furthermore, it can depend on the specific tire (i.e. make and model), since tires labeled with the same nominal size can vary considerably in actual size; for example, the Azenis and the Z212 are well-known for being wider than other tires labeled as the same size.
The rim widths approved by the manufacturer are very useful guides. Their engineers test the tires before coming up with them (they don't just pluck them out of thin air). If you use wheels outside the range of approved widths, it can result in excessive stress on the sidewall, generating excessive heat in the process, etc.

Really? What kind of tire were you running for the 225? and what 215 did you change to to make you like it better?
These Hankook RS-2s (15/45/225) with the right PSI are dialed, I don't really feel any turn in slop at all... Guess it could have to do with the sidewall stiffnesses as well...

225/45/15's were both Hoosier R3S03's and Kumho V700's. Compared to the JDM ***** 215/50/15 Dunlop DJ01 Formula whateverthehelltheyare things I ran at expo the others were not quite as crisp. The 215 just fits the wheel better. Too bad there aren't many in that particular size available here though.

The only two tires I know that are available in the States in 215/50-15 are the crappy BFG g-Force Sport, and a Dunlop all-season. Also, 215/50-15 will probably rub, at least sometimes.

personally i'd stick to 195/55R15s with the OEM 6" wide wheels.
i've run both 205/50R15 RT215s and RT615s on the stockies and they both felt sloppy as hell compared to the 205/50R15 RT615s on 7.5" wide wheels and the 215/45R16s on 7" wide wheels.
for 205s i'd run atleast a 6.5" wide wheel.
but you're drag racing so i guess it doesn't really matter how it feels in corners

They are a JDM tire that I picked up brand new for a good deal that compare to the A032R soft compound. I was quite happy with them. I know you saw them on my car Ken. It's too bad there aren't more tires available in that size for a 15x7" wheel.
