How to DIY regarding fabric interiors
I've been browsing A/C a lot and have seen multiple people with custom fabric pieces in their cars. Such as door trim, center arm rest, headliner (if that means inside of the roof) and so on. Now I've searched for a DIY thread but to no avail. Trust me I'm afraid enough of you search ball busters that I was thorough enough, I believe.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone had any DIY explanations/steps to do any of this. I am planning on refinishing my center arm rest/cd compartment in my Volvo. The leather is all worn down and I can clean it but its still pretty beat. Now the way I see it is that most people just stretch the fabric over the old one or remove the old finish and get foam and go from there. But since my arm rest is a little more tricky, requires 3 pieces of fabric. Two "side wall" pieces and a center/top strip. I plan on measuring, cutting and sewing the 3 parts and then using spray glue over the whole thing or just the underneath.
Its sort of confusing to explain but I don't have my camera handy. I was just wondering if people could post pics of their similar projects and explain how you did it. Not just arm rests but door trims (those are irregular shape and seems hard, how do you stretch the fabric so it does not wrinkle?), and headliners (do you take your roof out to do this?).
I posted this in GDD accidentally, sorry about that.
TIA
