Default Cant tune OBD0 Should I even buy cams?

I have a b16 with almost fully upgraded bolts on and my next upgrade will be camshafts. I wanted Skunk2 stg1 or 2 BUT I have obd0 and cannot tune the ecu to my mods. I dont really want to spend all the cheese to convert to obd1 and all that. I was thinking about jusy having Phearable setup my rev limit and vtec engagement and then using a VAFC to adjust my A/F.

Is it even worth modding a Obd0 car with these cams? would i even get a reasonable amount of power from some cams without a tune?

I dont want/expect a lot out of stg1 or 2

I mean how did everyone mod and tune their obd0 cars when that was the only thing available?

~$50 for a jumper harness
~$150 for a socketed P28

A certain brand cam package includes a basemap chip...

The power gained just from tuning on stock cams would be worth it IMO.

he would also need an obd1 dizzy. theres nothing wrong with obd0, don't get me wrong, obd1 options are much better. Just tune your car with BRE, its also free

Is an OBD-I dist necessary for B series? When I changed my Y7 over to OBD-I I used a Z6 dist shell (put a Z6 head on it) with Y7 dist internals and it worked like a clock.

I live in southern california i dont know if that matters but all i hear about is hondata. i dont know if i could find a tuner that tunes BRE? would a VAFC have the same options as the "limited" BRE?

can i really gain the power from tuning with stock cams as i would gain from no tuning with stage cams?

are those prices new or used?

does bre work the same as obd1 programs just with not as many options?

Depends on the tuner.

Could always just wait and tune it after you get the cams...

Yeah thats kind of where I am heading but if it is really only ~200 to convert to obd1 then that would benefit me a lot more in the long run.

With a relatively mild stage 1 camshaft my ecu should be able to keep things in tune pretty well i believe?

Still wondering....

the obd1 ecu requires an obd1(or 2) dizzy, the obd0 won't work with the obd1 ecu, or least they haven't for me.

Bre doesn't have as many options as say hondata, but it has your usual 2 step, RTP(real time programming), and datalogging. you can still tune the fuel and timing tables, same as hondata. The vafc is very limiting, plus you never know where the hell your timing is with it. If your tuner can do hondata, crome, or any other tuning program he could use BRE. Its very simple and functions well.

Yes tuning you car on the stock cams will make hp gains, i've always made about 12-15 hp over stock ecus on b16's i've tuned. Or like Aquafina said, tune it after you put your cams in.

you can tune pre-obd cars,I'm using turboedit.Things you need 1.wideband,2 USb based chip programmer,3 blank chips.I'm using turboedit in my b18 boosted rex.And i'm running uberdata in my boosted mini-me 90 std HB converted to obd-1.I know these are turbocharged cars but both progams can tune all-motor cars too.

I would just bite the bullet and convert to obd1

But FYI:
This was tuned on a OBD-0 PR3 stage4 HONDATA...if you can find one, it'll work good..
