Which Brand/Model speakers do you recommend?
I'm not looking for an expensive system. I have a set of kicker comps subs and kicker amp that I will be running from my last car and I have never really had much experience with mids/highs. I would like to spend around a couple hundred for both 6.5 and 6x9s. Which brands should I consider and which Model do you recommend. Thanks!
Eclipse Source Point, in 6.5 the SP6500. If you want to go seperate/components mount the tweeters as close the the mid-woofer as possible to minimize any time-alignment issues.
I'm guessing you have 6.5 up front and 6x9 rear? Spend more on your front stage (sound dampeing material and install will likely be the most dramatic upgrade) and don't worry about the rear-stage/fill; for best SQ you actually don't want rear speakers because the sound (mostly anything above 5000Hz) from the rear can affect the imaging and overall SQ in the front. If you want to add some rear-fill, I'd suggest disabling the tweeter on the 6x9s or see another idea below.
Another possibilty to free up a lot of room in your trunk, replace the 6x9 in the rear with two 6" subwoofers mounted on custom 3/4" MDF baffles and heavily deaden the rear deck, of course assuming the rear deck is where the 6x9s are mounted. All you'd need is a 4-ch amp, likely 4x100W at 4ohm, use two of the channels to drive the front stage, and bridge the rear for the subs. You won't get a lot of SPL with the two 6" subs, but there will be plenty of low-end extension and the install can be pretty stealth if you can mount the amp under the seat.
Alpine PDX-4.100 (10-3/16" x 2-1/2" x 8-7/8") or the Pioneer Premier (11-15/16" x 2-3/16" x 7-11/16") PRS-D4100F are both compact and lightwieght 4ch amps. Both use ICEPower technology, basically a full range class D amp; they run cool and don't draw as much current as comparable class AB amplifiers.
And for the 6" subs these are a great value: http://www.edesignaudio.com/ed...id=33 are a pretty good one. I don't work for them but many people say good things about all of eD's products. Their deadening material is good stuff and relatively inexpensive, especially compared to DynaMat.

It all depends on you and your ears. just cause the speakers are a lot of money doesn't make them sound good in you head. every store has the speakers they sell up for display go and hear them and pick out some thing you like. There going to sound different in you car but you'll get a general idea from hearing them mounted on a display.
the system above would be awesome!!!
the only thing i would change is bridge channels 3 and 4 and run a 8" or 10" sub.

best bang for the buck. and has very good quality/clarity etc...
i'd go with alpine type s speakers. well worth the money. clarity is by far the best from most replacement speakers. and u can throw a really nice mid/high amplifier on those speakers and not blow them.
my 2cents.
